DOLORES GRAY
The musical comedy star, her mother, and others sign a guest register
Signatures: "Dolores Gray", "Barbara Gray", "Jane Vogel" and one unidentified signer, and on verso "Norman (Wallace) Laurence", "Dorothy Foxon", "Sonia Meyer", "Tudor Jenkins" and two unidentified signers, 9½x3¼ sheet. Verso bears the dates (unknown hand) June 14 and June 16, 1950. DOLORES GRAY (1924-2002, born in Chicago, Illinois) was a Tony-winning actress of stage, TV and movies. Rudy Vallee discovered Gray singing in Hollywood supper clubs and featured her on his radio show before her move to Broadway. Most of Gray's experience was on the stage, with a total of eight appearances in Broadway musicals, including a Tony-winning performance as Cornelia in Carnival in Flanders (1953). While Carnival closed after 6 days, in it Gray sang what became her most popular song, "Here's That Rainy Day." Gray also appeared as Annie Oakley in the 1947 London production of Annie Get Your Gun. Gray had a few movie appearances - again, mostly in musicals, including a role opposite Gene Kelly in It's Always Fair Weather (1955), Lalume in Kismet (1955) and Sylvia in The Opposite Sex (1956). She was married to California businessman Andrew Crevolin - owner of the 1954 Kentucky Derby winning horse, Determine. Barbara Gray was Dolores' mother. The other signers of this register may merit further research. Irregular left edge from removal from bound book. Stray pencil mark at right margin. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
