DOLORES GRAY
Dolores Gray sends an autograph letter to a fan thanking him for his
support.
Autograph Letter signed: "Dolores Gray", 2p, 6x9½. Boston,
Massachusetts, 1959 April 10. On letter head for the Hotel Touriane to
"Dear Mr. Johnson.-" In full: "Thank you for your perfectly
marvelous letter. I did enjoy seeing the drawing you did - it was superb. In
fact, one can see you are extremely talented. It is truly gratifying to learn
one has a real and warm and interested fan. This show has been very very trying
as we have rehearsed constantly and there has been considerable dissention
between the director and me, but at last we are headed for Broadway and there is
naught left for us but to do our best and pray. Thank you for all your good
wishes." Dolores Gray (1924-2002, born in Chicago, Illinois) was a
Tony-winning actress of stage, TV and movies. Rudy Vallee discovered Gray
singing in Hollywood supper clubs and featured her on his radio show before her
move to Broadway. Most of Gray's experience was on the stage, with a total of
eight appearances in Broadway musicals, including a Tony-winning performance
as Cornelia in Carnival in Flanders (1953). Gray also appeared as
Annie Oakley in the 1947 London production of Annie Get Your Gun. Gray
had a few movie appearances - again, mostly in musicals, including a role
opposite Gene Kelly in It's Always Fair Weather (1955), Lalume in
Kismet (1955) and Sylvia in The Opposite Sex (1956). Fold creases
not near signature. Fine condition.
