Actor Dom DeLuise wrote this letter to notify the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists that Merritt Blake was no longer his agent.
Autograph letter signed "Dom De Luise". With black ink date stamp and pencil mark at top right corner and red pencil notations in letter, all in unknown hand. 1 page, 8½x11. Address label with DeLuise's address at top edge. In full: "Dear Aftra I am trying to have people stop telling any of my 'work calls' that I am with Merit Blake - I would appreciate it if I get any work calls to refer them to - Dick Hume ask for Sybil [phone number] I cant [sic] tell you how much simpler this would make my life! Thank you". Postscript: "My home no is [phone number]". Red ink notation in body of letter: "I AM NO LONGER WITH MERIT BLAKE". MERRITT BLAKE is a theatrical agent who founded his own agency, the Blake Agency, in Beverly Hills, California in 1970. Comic actor DOM DELUISE (1933-2009) has appeared on Broadway and on the big and small screens. His feature films include The Glass-Bottom Boat (1966), The Twelve Chairs (1970), Blazing Saddles (1974), Silent Movie (1976), The End (1978), The Muppet Movie (1979), History of the World - Part 1 (1981), The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982), Spaceballs (1987) and Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993), and DeLuise also hosted a weekly summer variety program on TV. A lifelong opera buff, DeLuise has been given the opportunity from time to time to perform with various opera companies. In 1995, he brought down the house at New York's Metropolitan in the role of Frosh the Jailer in Die Fledermaus. Lightly creased. Light tear in right side. Light dent in top left and bottom right corner. Bottom right corner is rounded. Address label is separating from letter. Folded in eighths and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
