The Wizard of Mental Telepathy. Elsie Myrus, his wife, collected autographs of
celebrities attending her husband's show. In 1935, DON AMECHE
(1908-1993) won a bit part in Clive of India (he was credited as
"Prisoner in the Black Hole"). He was so memorable in the title role in
1939's The Story of Alexander Graham Bell that for years afterward a
telephone was known as an "ameche". He continued working steadily through
the mid-1940s when his film career ground to an abrupt halt. During the 1950s,
he worked occasionally on television and began appearing infrequently in
low-budget films during the 1960s and 1970s. In 1985, Ameche starred in
Cocoon and won the 1986 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
It was his only Oscar nomination. He followed up that role to even more
acclaim in 1988's concoction Things Change. Before his death in 1993,
Ameche rounded out his career with brief but memorable performances in
Oscar (1991) and Corrina, Corrina (1994). LUM (CHET LAUCK,
1902-1980) & Abner (Norris Goff, 1906-1978) was a comedic team that
delighted radio audiences for 25 years beginning in 1931. In addition to radio,
they made seven motion pictures. Upon their retirement, they had performed over
5,000 live radio programs and entertained countless millions of fans. Slightly
soiled and shaded. Overall, fine condition.
