Francis and Violet Zane of the actor standing in a small street, wearing a
striped suit and hat
Inscribed photograph signed: "To Francis/Best/Don Beddoe", in
black ink, B/w 3½x5¾. American actor Don Beddoe (1903-1991) was born in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He has appeared in films and television series
for over 45 years and performed on Broadway for over 15 years. His notable
films include The Best Years of Our Lives (1946), The Bachelor and the
Bobby-Soxer (1947), The Night of the Hunter (1955) and Pillow
Talk (1959). Appearing in numerous television series like The Lone
Ranger, Bewitched, Lawman and Lassie, his Broadway
credits include The Sky's the Limit (1934-1935) and First Lady
(1935-1936). This photograph is from the collection of Francis and Violet
Zane, Hawaii natives who moved to California in the 1920's. Francis Zane
had a job at the historic Curran Theater and the San Francisco Opera House,
which is where he began his massive collection, with photographs and
materials ranging from the 1920's to 1960's. The location and luck of his
occupation would land him smack dab in the middle of the celebrity world,
allowing him to capture some of the most unique and interesting pieces of
Hollywood History. Corners lightly worn. Slightly toned. Lightly bowed. Fine
condition.
