DON DRYSDALEHe signed this beautifully handwritten reminiscence of Don Larsen's perfect game in the 1956 World Series. Full of vivid memories from the game, recounting plays by Jackie Robinson, Gil Hodges, Mickey Mantle, and other well-known Yankees and Dodgers! Autograph Manuscript signed: "Best Regards/Don Drysdale", 1 page, 8½x11. Titled "1955 and 1956 World Series". In full: "The Larsen no-hitter was something to see. There are a few things that stick in my mind. (1) Jackie Robinson hit a ball off Andy Carey's foot. It bounced right to Gil McDougald at short who threw him out. (2) Gil Hodges hit a ball in deep left-center and Mickey Mantle almost outran the ball and made a great catch at his left knee. (3) Sandy Amoros hit a ball that almost hit the foul pole in right field for a home run. Also Sal Maglie didn't pitch a bad game himself, 2-0, a 5-hitter. 1955 I wasn't there.". Drysdale, inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984,pitched for the Brooklyn Dodgers (1956-1957) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (1958-1969). He had a 209-166 win-loss record, 2,486 strikeouts, 2.95 ERA. The ferocious hurler used brush back pitches and a sidearm fastball to intimidate batters, and his 154 hit batsmen remain a modern National League record. Drysdale was only 56 when he died in 1993.
