Autograph Note signed: “To Joe/ Best Wishes/ Don Hastings/ 'Dr. Bob'” in blue ink, 5x3. Don
Hastings (b. 1934) is best known for playing Dr. Robert “Bob” Hughes from 1960 to
2010 on the soap As the World Turns. Interestingly, he is the longest serving cast member of
an American television soap opera, preceded only by Helen Wagner, who happened to play the
matriarch, Nancy Hughes McClosky, on the same show. He began his performance career at
age six as a member of the “Bus Bunny” chorus on the serial Coast to Coast on a Bus.
Hastings went on to portray the character of Jack Lane on The Edge of Night from 1956 to
1960. In addition to acting, Hastings has written for both As the World Turns
(1956-2010) and Guiding Light (1952-2009) using the pen name J.J. Matthews. Lightly
toned. Pencil notes in an unknown hand on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
