DON LARSEN
The only pitcher to throw a perfect game in the World Series signed this framed image of him on the mound that day
Inscribed Photograph Signed: "To Todd Axelrod,/ Best Wishes,/ Don Larsen/ #18/ October 8, 1956”. Photograph is b/w, 9¼x6¼. New York Yankees pitcher DON LARSEN (born in 1929) was immortalized by his World Series perfect game on October 8, 1956 (witnessed by 64,519 fans). This is the only perfect game ever pitched in the World Series. Named the MVP of the series, Larsen had gone 11-5 for the Yankees that year and, after being knocked out in the second inning of Game Two, started Game Five. The Yankees would go on to become champs after beating the Brooklyn Dodgers by four games to three. A capable pitcher who adopted a no-windup delivery, Larsen's 11 wins in 1956 were his career high. A lifetime .242 batter, he had 14 career home runs and was used 66 times as a pinch hitter. Larsen was also the last active former St. Louis Brown. He's shown throwing his last pitch of the perfect game, striking out outfielder Dale Mitchell. Image slightly grainy. Fine condition. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 15½x18½.
