Signature: "Don Loper", 2¼x1 strip, affixed to a 5x3 page
which also bears an unsigned candid b/w photo of him. Ink note (unknown hand) -
11/21/72 - is the date of his death, not a signing date. Don Loper
(1906-1972) was a wardrobe designer for actresses from Gracie Allen (on TV)
to Marlene Dietrich (Rancho Notorious, 1952). He also designed jewelry
for Ella Fitzgerald, and fashioned men's neckties. Loper was also an interior
decorator for hotels, including the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles and the Roney
Plaza in Miami Beach. His work is displayed in collections, including the Los
Angeles County Museum of Art. Loper played bit parts three films, and was an
assistant producer of the Sonja Henie movie It's a Pleasure (1945). He
introduced Judy Garland to her future husband, director Vincente Minnelli.
