DON MATTINGLY
The 9-time Gold Glove winning Yankees first baseman is shown at the plate in his batting stance.
Photograph signed: "Don/Mattingly" in black felt tip, Color 8x10. First baseman Don Mattingly played his entire Major League career (1982-1995) with the New York Yankees, and donned the pinstripes again as hitting coach (2003) and then bench coach (2006). The Yankees reportedly have him in mind as a future manager. A 6-time All-Star (1984-1989) and 9-time Gold Glove, Mattingly captured the AL batting title in 1984, hitting .343, the first Yankee since Lou Gehrig to hit over .340. He was American League MVP in 1985. The following year he set all-time Yankee marks for hits (238) and doubles (53) in a season. Back injuries plagued Mattingly in the 1990s, derailing what had previously looked like a Hall of Fame career. Nevertheless, he is probably the greatest Yankee never to appear in a World Series. Immensely popular with Yankee fans, Mattingly has a plaque in Yankee Stadium's Monument Park. It reads, "A humble man of grace and dignity, a captain who led by example, proud of the pinstripe tradition and dedicated to the pursuit of excellence, a Yankee forever." In 2011, he became manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Printed logo at bottom right corner. Fine condition.
