Autograph letter signed: "Don Mc. Henry", in blue ink, 1 page,
5x8. May 6, 1982. In full: "Dear John Willis - As you suggested, I am
enclosing an 8x10 glossy for your use and files [items not included] -
Over the years I have found "Theatre World" to be most useful and informative -
Thanks again". Post script: "I trust you found "Medea" to your
liking". Don McHenry (1908-1995) was a longtime stage and television
actor with a career spanning over thirty years. On Broadway he appeared in many
plays, including Medea (1947, 1949, 1982), The Crucible
(1953), and King Lear (1968). In television, McHenry had small
roles on The Defenders (1962) and The Adams Chronicles
(1976). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the
beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until
2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians
of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World
Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards.
Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in
Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Corners lightly
worn and creased. Paper clip crease on top margin. Light surface creases.
