Printed photograph signed in ink: "Don Murray", in red ink, B/w 10¼x8. Stage, screen and
television actor Don Murray (1929-2024) debuted on Broadway in 1951 in The Rose
Tattoo. In 1955, he was spotted on the Great White Way (playing in The Skin of Our Teeth) by
Joshua Logan, who signed Murray for Bus Stop (1956), his screen debut. Murray was
nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his role of a cowboy who
romances Marilyn Monroe, and he went on to appear in such films as A Hatful of Rain (1957),
Advise and Consent (1962), The Plainsman (1966), Conquest of the Planet of the Apes
(1972), Peggy Sue Got Married (1986) and Kickboxer the Champion (1991). Murray also
made a number of made-for-television movies, but he is best known to TV audiences for his
role as Sid Fairgate (1979-1981) on Knots Landing. Murray has also guest starred in a
number of other TV series, from Studio One (1950) to The Single Guy (1996). He has also
written for television and written, directed and produced several films. Murray was married to
actress Hope Lange from 1956-1961. Corners worn and creased. Slightly soiled. Slightly
toned. Ink stamps and ink notes (unknown hand) on verso. Slight surface creases. Otherwise,
fine condition.
