This friendly typed letter is signed by the married couple known for their forays in the entertainment industry
Typed Letter Signed: "Don", "+ Peg" in blue and red ink, respectively. 5 ½ x 8 ½ letter adhered with tape to a 6x9 Christmas card. Dated December 14, 1977. In Part: "I've been doing some TV - part kitsch, part/pretty good - and am now giving a big shove/to the film dep't. at Wm Morris". These two stage and screen performers were married for 50 years, from 1947-1997, until Don Porter's death. American actor Don Porter (1912-1997) appeared occasionally in feature films beginning in the early 1940s and made a United States Army training film, Resisting Enemy Interrogation (1944). He played incumbent Senator Tucker Jarmon, upset by Robert Redford's character, in The Candidate (1972).On stage, he starred in the hit Broadway play Any Wednesday (1964). Porter really came into his own on television, however. He playedAnn Sothern's boss on Private Secretary (1963-1967), and Sally Fields' widowed father on Gidget (1965-1966). His numerous guest spots included multiple appearances on The Bionic Woman (1976-1977) and Dallas (1980).Peggy Converse (1906-2001) was an actress and stage star who appeared on New York stages in the 1920s and 1930s, working thereafter in touring companies and summer stock. She played supporting roles in several films, including Miss Sadie Thompson (1953) and The Accidental Tourist (1988). Converse appeared in various television guest roles on shows including Perry Mason (1957-1960) and The Ropers (1979). In interviews later in life, she claimed she had performed on stage in every major city in the United States and Canada. Mailing creases. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
