American reporter and TV executive Don S. Hewitt (1922-2009), born Donald Hewitt, got
his start in journalism as a copy boy at the New York Herald Tribune and covering World
War II. He had credits in TV news stretching back to the dawn of commercial television,
when he was a producer and director on CBS's Douglas Edwards with the News (later CBS
Television News, 1948-1962) and a director on Edward R. Murrow's See It Now. But his
most important contribution to TV was probably as creator of the widely-copied, hugely
influential - and hugely profitable - TV news show 60 Minutes. Hewitt was a producer on
the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning show from 1969 to 2004. He was inducted into
the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 1990. Minor surface defects. Otherwise, fine
condition.
