Photograph signed "Don Taylor" and "Phyllis Avery. B/w 3½x2½ overall, image 2x2-one surface. DonTaylor (1920-1998), American actor and director, studied drama at Pennsylvania State University before signing on as a contract player at MGM. He confined himself mostly to acting during the 1940s and early 1950s, with two Broadway performances and starring roles in such classics as Naked City (1948), Father of the Bride (1950) and Stalag 17 (1953), before turning his hand to directing in 1947. After directing episodes on several TV series and two comedies, he hit pay dirt with the TV movie and critic favorite Something of a Lonely Man (1968) and the movies Five Man Army (1970), Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971), Island of Doctor Moreau (1977), Damien: Omen II (1979) and The Final Countdown (1980). He concentrated on directing TV movies after The Final Countdown, directing his last, The Diamond Trap, in 1988. Phyllis Avery (1924-2011) who was married to Taylor (1944-1955), began her career in films - Queen for a Day (1951), Ruby Gentry (1952) and transitioned to television. Avery appeared on/in everything from The George Gobel Show (1954), Peter Gunn (1960), The Red Skelton Show (1961-62) to All in the Family (1973) and Maude (1976). Upon retirement, she became a real estate agent. Stained, toned and creased. Lightly bowed at edges.
