The actor pens a letter to John Willis, chief editor of Theatre World
Autograph letter signed: "Donal Donnelly", 1 page, 6x9. No place, no date. In full: "Dear Mr. Willis, In tackling a large and long last bundle of mail I found your letter. I am writing to say that I phoned Dorothy Ross when I received your communication and she promised to send you the photo you require. If she has done so fine if not please you could remind her for me, as I am last on tour. Her no is [he lists her number] My many thanks." Donal Donnelly (1931-2010) was an Irish theatre and film actor, born in England. He has a number of stage credits, appearing in 11 Broadways, and starring in three of the plays: Sherlock's Lost Case (1987), Ghetto (1989), Translations (1995). He is more well known for his roles on the screen, appearing in over 40 titles. Most notably, he appeared in The Godfather: Part III (1990), playing the character of Archbishop Gilday. John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Creased. Fine condition.
