American astronaut Donald A. Thomas was born on May 6, 1955. He received
a BS in Physics in 1977 and a Master of Science degree and Doctorate in
Materials Science from Cornell University. He joined NASA's Lyndon B. Johnson
Space Center as a Materials Engineer in 1988. He became an astronaut in
1991 and served as the spacecraft communicator (CAPCOM) for missions STS-47,
STS-52 and STS-53. He logged over 1,000 hours in space as a mission
specialist on STS-65 Columbia (July 9-23, 1994), STS-70 Discovery
(July 13-22, 1995), STS-83 Columbia (April 4-8, 1997) and STS-94
Columbia (July 1-17, 1997). He was awarded the NASA Sustained Superior
Performance Award, four NASA Group Achievement Awards, four NASA Space Flight
Medals, two NASA Exceptional Service Medals, and the NASA Distinguished Service
Medal. Fine condition.
