Typed Letter signed: “Dora Macy” in green ink, 5½x7. No place, 1936 December 16. On her
personal stationery. To “Dear Mr. Baker” In full: “I am very happy indeed to acknowledge
receipt of your lovely note about “Riding High”. You can't know how encouraging it is to hear from
people./ May I wish you to happiest of holidays./ Sincerely yours”. Dora Macy (1900-1955) was
an author primarily known for her pulp novels such as Night Nurse (1930), No More
Orchids (1932), Boy Crazy (1932), and Crazy Kid (1938). Her work Night Nurse (1930)
was converted into the 1931Pre-Code film of the same name directed by William A. Wellman
and starring Barbara Stanwyck, Joan Blondell, and Clark Gable. She came from a talented
family; her brother Ray was a composer and her brother Bobbie was a musical comedy
actress. Macy was married to Charles Fulton Oursler, the famous journalist and playwright.
