DORIS BARRY, CO-SIGNED BY: LARRY ALDRICH
The ballet manager signs this paper in blue ink, along with the fashion designer
Autograph note signed: "Doris Barry" and "Larry Aldrich" with the note: "Hope I can be present at the/Eighty fifth Birthday [illegible]/"in blue ink. One other signature, unidentifiable. 9½x5½. Doris Barry (1914-2009) was the representative and manager of her sister, ballerina Alicia Markova, for many years. She helped form and managed the London Festival Ballet in 1951. When she left the company, she was asked by Hughie Green to help on the British television talent show, Opportunity Knocks, because of her experience in the dance and theater world. Larry Aldrich (1906-2001) was an American fashion designer and art collector. Aldrich began working in the fashion trade in 1924 but started producing garments under his own label in the 1940s. He was president of the New York Couture Group. Aldrich began collecting art and after buying a large enough house to hold his extensive collection, he turned it into a museum. The Larry Aldrich Museum was founded in 1964 and it still awards a Larry Aldrich Award every year. Lightly toned. Corners rounded. Address written on verso in what seems to be the same handwriting as the note. Top edge irregular. Otherwise, fine condition.
