Doris Day signs a check to Century Artist for $375.00.
Check signed: "Doris Day", 6x2½, matted to a 16x12 board. Also included are two unsigned color photos size 6¼x6¼ and 6¼x9½. Hollywood, California, 1947 July 10. Bank check, Bank of America, payable to Century Artists for $375.00. Known for her wholesome, "girl-next-door" good looks and sparkling personality, "America's Sweetheart" was one of the most popular and highest paid actresses by the early 1950s. After her would-be dancing career was sidelined by an accident, Day had turned to singing, first touring with bands and then introducing hit after hit in a string of romantic comedies. Nominated for an Academy Award for Pillow Talk (1959), she also brightened up the silver screen opposite such romantic leading men as Rock Hudson and Cary Grant. Day married her agent, Marty Melcher, in 1955. After his death in 1968, Doris discovered he had ruined her financially with bad investments and investments. Being the trouper she was, Day worked her way out of difficulties. Bank cancellation holes not at signature. Fine condition.
