DORIS DREW and LES BAXTER
Notes written on front and verso to Oregon radio personality George Sanders, with Drew wishing him and his wife luck, and Baxter extending his sincere gratitude. Extremely rare!
Autograph note signed: "To George/Good Luck & Sincerest/Best wishes to both you/& Mrs. Sanders - Tex too!/Doris Drew", "Sincere gratitude/Les Baxter", in blue ink, 7¾x4¾. Vocalist DORIS DREW released one jazz-influenced album, titled Delightful Doris Drew. She also sang vocals for Alice in the 1966 Hanna-Barbera film Alice in Wonderland or What's a Nice Kid Like You Doing in a Place Like This?. LES BAXTER (1922-1996) was a concert pianist and pop singer before finding his true calling as a conductor and arranger. His orchestra scored hit singles in the mid-1950s: "Unchained Melody," "Wake the Town and Tell the People," and "The Poor People of Paris". He composed the theme song to TV's Lassie, and arranged film scores as diverse as Beach Party and The Dunwich Horror. He composed music for theme parks. Throughout his music career, Baxter championed the exotic music movement, "packaged tours in sound" which would permit suburbanites to feel taboo emotions and view pagan ceremonies without leaving the comfort of their living rooms. Music of the Moon (1947) and Ports of Pleasure (1957) were theme albums in this genre. George R. Sanders, originally a disc jockey, became a prominent radio/TV interview host, first in Los Angeles and later in Portland. Toned. Unsigned newspaper clippings affixed to front and verso. Right edge frayed and worn. Corners lightly worn and creased. Slight surface creases. Ink notes (unknown hand) noting page numbers. Otherwise, fine condition.
