DORIS EATON TRAVIS
Copy of her memoir, The Days We Danced, inscribed by the last surviving Ziegfeld Girl
Book inscribed and signed: October 27, 2003/To Angela and Gino/In memory of a delightfully/'flashing' afternoon. May/the Blue Bird of Happiness/dwell with you always/Affectionately/Doris Eaton Travis", 279 pages, 8½x10¼, The Days We Danced: The Story of my Theatrical Family, by Doris Eaton Travis. Seattle: Marquand, 2003. First edition, first printing. Publisher's binding and dust jacket. Dorothy Eaton (Travis), 1904-2010, from a family of dancing stage performers, became the youngest ever Ziegfeld girl, when she debuted in the show in 1918. In 1997, at the reopening of New York's Amsterdam Theatre, she was one of four surviving Ziegfeld girls, and the only one still able to dance! She outlived all the others. When she died in March 2010, lights on Broadway were dimmed in her honor. She was one of the last surviving adult actors from silent films as well. As a performer at Hollywood's Music Box Review Theatre, she was the first to perform "Singin' in the Rain." After leaving the stage, Eaton began 32 years with the Arthur Murray Dance Studios, beginning as an instructor and retiring as owner of nearly 20 studios. She married former dance pupil Paul Travis, retiring with him to Oklahoma to raise horses. Fine condition.
