DORIS KENYON
B/w photo of actor Doris Kenyon looking over her shoulder and with one hand on a wall and the other on her hip, signed with "Every good wish"
Inscribed photograph signed"To Ben -/Every good wish/Doris Kenyon". B/w, 8x10 overall, 7¼x9½ image, one surface, printed on cardstock. Kenyon (1897-1979) got her showbiz start in 1915. Composer Victor Herbert had heard her sing and cast her in his musical The Hidden Hand. She appeared on Broadway 5 times between 1916 and 1924 and had a total of over 60 film appearances between 1915 and 1939. A pretty starlet who matured into a competent leading lady during the silent and early talkie era, she appeared in seven movies with first husband Milton Sills before his sudden death in 1930. George Arliss persuaded her to stay in the movie business with meatier roles in such movies as Alexander Hamilton (1931), Voltaire (1933), Counsellor at Law (1933) and The Man in the Iron Mask (1939). Kenyon retired after 1939 with only occasional appearances on TV. Lightly toned, soiled, creased and bowed. Signature has low contrast but is legible. Pinholes at top and bottom edges. Light nick at bottom edge and dent at top edge. Rounded and worn corners. Otherwise in fine condition.
