DORIS KENYON
Small 6x8¼sepia-tone photograph by Nishitama of New York of actor Doris Kenyon in a long dress and with one hand on a table and the other on her hip, signed with her "Best Wishes"
Photograph signed "Best Wishes/Doris Kenyon". B/w sepia-tone, 6x8¼ overall, 6x8 image, one surface, printed on cardstock with fabric texture. Photo by Nishitama of New York. Kenyon (1897-1979) got her showbiz start in 1915. Composer Victor Herbert had heard her sing and cast her in his musical The Hidden Hand. She appeared on Broadway 5 times between 1916 and 1924 and had a total of over 60 film appearances between 1915 and 1939. A pretty starlet who matured into a competent leading lady during the silent and early talkie era, she appeared in seven movies with first husband Milton Sills before his sudden death in 1930. George Arliss persuaded her to stay in the movie business with meatier roles in such movies as Alexander Hamilton (1931), Voltaire (1933), Counsellor at Law (1933) and The Man in the Iron Mask (1939). Kenyon retired after 1939 with only occasional appearances on TV. Lightly toned, soiled, silvered, creased and bowed. Photo is out of focus. Rounded corners. Otherwise in fine condition.
