The Broadway / Hollywood star poses in this glamorous 5x7 headshot, pens her "best wishes"
Photograph signed: "Best wishes/ Doris Kenyon" in white ink. Sepia, 5x7. Doris Kenyon(1897-1979) got her showbiz start in 1915. Composer Victor Herbert had heard her sing and cast her in his musical The Hidden Hand. She appeared on Broadway 5 times between 1916 and 1924 and had a total of over 60 film appearances between 1915 and 1939. A pretty starlet who matured into a competent leading lady during the silent and early talkie era, she appeared in seven movies with first husband Milton Sills before his sudden death in 1930. George Arliss persuaded her to stay in the movie business with meatier roles in such movies as Alexander Hamilton (1931), Voltaire (1933), Counsellor at Law (1933) and The Man in the Iron Mask (1939). Kenyon retired after 1939 with only occasional appearances on TV. Toned. Corners rounded and creased. Mounting residue on verso. Signature lightly faded (legible). Otherwise, fine condition.
