Signed first edition of her Mara and Dann
Book signed: "Doris Lessing", 407 pages, 6½x9½. Mara and Dann, by Doris Lessing. (NY: Harper Flamingo, 1999). First edition. Hardcover with dust jacket. Signed on title page. Iranian-born British author Doris Lessing (1919-2013) published her first novel, The Grass is Singing, in 1949, but her breakthrough novel, The Golden Notebook, appeared in 1962. Originally attracted to Marxism, she ultimately rejected the doctrine because it ignores the spiritual dimension of life. Her later works reflect her interest in Sufism. Lessing rejected a Damehood, but has accepted other honors from the Crown. In 2007 she became the oldest person ever to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. Mara and Dann tells the tale of a brother and sister in an imagined human future. Minimal edge wear to boards. Fine condition, including dust jacket.
