DORIS LESSING
Nobel Prize winner Lessing signs typescript from her 1974 Memories of a
Survivor
Typescript signed: "Doris Lessing/11th March 1980", 1 page, 8½x11.
Doris Lessing (1919-2013) published her first novel, The Grass is
Singing, in 1949, but her breakthrough novel, The Golden Notebook,
appeared in 1962. Originally attracted to Marxism, she ultimately rejected
the doctrine because it ignores the spiritual dimension of life. Her later works
reflect her interest in Sufism. Lessing rejected a Dame hood, but has accepted
other honors from the Crown. In 2007 she became the oldest person ever to win
the Nobel Prize for Literature. Memoirs of a Survivor marked a new
phase in Lessing's writing, a shift away from introspective psychological
themes, to explorations of the human future, culminating in her science fiction
novels.Fine condition.
