Signature: “Dorothy Fuldheim” in pencil, 4½x3. 1¼x1¾ b/w printed photo and 1¾x½
caption (with several stains) affixed. Dorothy Fuldheim (1893-1989) was a journalist and
TV anchor famous for being the first woman to anchor a U.S. TV news broadcast.
Fuldheim moved to Cleveland in the 1920s and began her broadcasting career with WTAM
radio. Soon after, she began working for The Cleveland Press as a journalist, traveling all over
the world to conduct interviews with important international figures. In 1947, she
commenced her TV career, becoming a member of the WEWS-TV Channel 5 team in
Cleveland. Interestingly, Fuldheim was the first woman in the U.S. to have her own TV
news program. Lightly toned throughout from a previous mounting. Otherwise, fine
condition.
