Lillian Gish is probably the most well-known actress to come out of the Gish clan. But younger sister Dorothy Gish (1898-1968, born Dorothy Elizabeth de Guiche in Massillon, Ohio) was an accomplished actress and pioneer of the silents, as well. The two sisters entered acting with their mother to support themselves and soon found work with D. W. Griffith, debuting together in 1912's An Unseen Enemy. Dorothy was one of the most skilled actors in Griffith's repertory of actors, specializing in light comedy and pantomime. She made close to 140 movies, many of them one and two-reelers directed by Griffith and with her sister, with memorable performances in Griffith's Judith of Bethulia (1914), Hearts of the World (1918) and Orphans of the Storm (1922).She also appeared inher sister's directorial debut, Remodeling Her Husband (1920). Gish pretty much withdrew from the screen to concentrate on stage acting between 1927 and 1944, garnering 15 acting credits on Broadway in that time. Most of her work after this was another new medium, television, with numerous guest star appearances. Lightly toned. Signature is lightly smeared but legible. Toned. Corners lightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
