Autograph note signed: "For/James Keenan/Ever thine,/Dorothy Mackaill", in black felt tip, 5x3. British-born actress Dorothy Mackaill (1903-1990) got her start in show business after running away from home at age 11 to act in the London theatre. After working in choruses in England and France, she joined the Broadway caste of The Century Revue in 1920, followed by Ziegfield's Midnight Frolic. That same year, she made her first silent film, The Face in the Window. She made her breakthrough to stardom in 1924, with leading roles in The Man Who Came Back (opposite George O'Brien) and the Western The Mine with the Iron Door. Her most notable talking film was Love Affair (1932), opposite a young Humphrey Bogart. She retired from movies in 1937, returning for a few roles in TV shows like Hawaii Five-0. Water drops on inscription, but clearly legible. Slightly toned. Corners slightly worn. Fine condition.
