DOUG WICKENHEISER
The late Montreal Canadien center signs this publicity photograph
Publicity Photograph Signed: "Doug Wickenheiser," in blue felt tip pen.  Color, 3 ½ x4½.  Printed biography on verso.  Doug Wickenheiser (1961-1999) was a professional ice hockey center who played 10 seasons in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens, St. Louis Blues, Vancouver Canucks, New York Rangers and the Washington Capitals between 1980 and 1990.  A few years after he retired, Wickenheiser noticed an irregular lump in his wrist and discovered it was a malignant cyst.  He had the mass removed; however, he soon learned that he had inoperable lung cancer.  Two years after being diagnosed, Wickenheiser died from brain and lung cancer in 1999.  He was only 37 years old.  To honor him, Wickenheiser's father-in-law Ted Pepple wrote the book The Last Face Off: The Doug Wickenheiser Story.  In his hometown of Regina, Saskatchewan an arena was named after him to commemorate his life and legacy.  In the NHL, Wickenheiser played 556 games with 111 goals and 165 assists. Otherwise, fine condition.
