pioneer Douglas Edwards (1917-1990) is credited with "inventing" the TV news
anchor in 1948, when he began his stint on the 15-minute CBS TV News
five nights weekly. Edwards, who had covered the final months of WWII in Europe
with Edward R. Murrow, won the George Foster Peabody Award for distinguished
achievement in television journalism in 1956, also hosted the early TV show,
Masquerade Party (1953), was the host/narrator of Armstrong Circle
Theatre (1957-1961) and narrated the 1951 film, Day of the Fight.
