Paper signed by Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., his wife Mary, his mother Beth, his stepfather Charles Whiting, and by a noted dealer in antique silver. Apparently unrelated signatures on verso include celebrated ballroom dancers Maurice and Dolores Lapue
Signatures: "Mary Lee Fairbanks", "Douglas Fairbanks.", "Beth Whiting", "Jack Whiting", "Seymour B. Wyler", "Felice Wyler"  and one unidentified signature. Also signed on verso "Maurice Lapue", "Dolores Lapue" and 4 unidentified signers, 9x5, irregularly cut. Portion of date: "Oct. 31" at lower margin of first page. Fairbanks was married to his second wife, the former MARY LEE EPPING (1910-1988), from 1939 until her death. He had previously been married to actress Joan Crawford. DOUGLAS FAIRBANKS, JR. (1909-2000) was the son of the dashing actor of the 1920s and Anna Beth Sully. At the age of 13, he starred in Lasky's Stephen Steps Out, an unsuccessful attempt to exploit the Fairbanks name. Although the younger Fairbanks, a movie producer as well as an actor, appeared in some 75 films, his father took little interest in his son's career, and the two did not become close friends until the early 1930s. His feature films included Stella Dallas (1926), Little Caesar (1930), The Prisoner of Zenda (1937), Gunga Din (1939) and Sinbad the Sailor (1947), and Fairbanks also appeared in a number of made-for-TV movies and hosted the anthology series, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. Presents (1952-1955). JACK WHITING (1901-1961) acted in six films in the 1930s, and later appeared in the television series The Marge and Gower Champion Show as Marge's father (1957). He also made a number of TV guest appearances. ANNA BETH SULLY, a.k.a. “Mrs. Douglas”, (1888-1967) was married to actor Douglas Fairbanks from 1907 to 1919. She was the daughter of a wealthy cotton financier who opposed her marriage to the actor. At her father's behest, Sully attempted to push Fairbanks toward what she and her father believed to be a more stable career. Caving to marital pressure, Fairbanks began working for the Buchanan Soap Company only to quit six months later and return to acting. As Fairbanks was more or less an absentee father, Sully raised the couple's son, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., from the age of 9. In 1929, she married Jack Whiting. SEYMOUR B. WYLER (1910-1990) was a New York City antique dealer specializing in English silver and porcelain. Considered a leading authority on antique silver, he wrote two books on the subject. He was married to FELICE (MARGULIES) WYLER (1912-1992). The seemingly unrelated signatures on verso include MAURICE LAPUE (1907-2003), who appeared in Broadway musicals from 1922 to 1931, including Strike Up the Band (1930). He later worked on Broadway as a casting director and talent agent. His greatest claim to fame, however, was in the ballroom dance team of Maurice and Cordoba, featured at many New York hotels and nightclubs in the 1940s and described by contemporaries as "the highest paid dancers in America." DOLORES LAPUE (1903-1985) was married to Maurice for 40 years, was also his dance partner. Slightly creased and soiled at left margin. Minor show-through of signatures. Otherwise, fine condition.
