DOUGLAS FOWLEY and HUBERT VALENTINE FANSHAW

The actor and artist pen their autographs on this 5¼x4¼ pink album leaf

Signatures: "Hubert Valentine", "Ligit O'Brian", "C.E. O'Connell", "Alfie", "Douglas Fowley" and "Good luck/Jernell deMarvell" in pencil and blue/black ink. 5¼x4¼ overall. DOUGLAS FOWLEY (1911-1998) was an American movie and television actor. He is best remembered for his role as the frustrated movie director Roscoe Dexter in Singin' in the Rain (1952).  He was often typecast as a villain and when he was not playing an actual criminal, he was often portrayed an argumentative troublemaker. Portraying a member of Tyrone Power's orchestra in Alexander's Ragtime Band, in the early scenes of the film Fowley's character quarrels with his bandmates, but this is not developed in the film's later scenes. He continued to act into the 1970s and was frequently billed as "Douglas V. Fowley". One of his last roles was as Delaney Rafferty in Disney's The north Avenue Irregulars, in which he dressed in drag. HUBERT VALENTINE FANSHAW (1878-1940) was a Canadian artist. Co-signers merit for further research. Toned. Soiled. Irregular cut. Mounted on a 5¼x4¼ pink card. Otherwise, fine condition.
