Handwritten note by the stage and screen actor whose career spanned
half a century. A rare signature.
Autograph Note signed: "It gives me pleasure/to write my
autograph/for you -/Douglas J. Wood/1913", 5½x2½. Douglas J. Wood
(1880-1966) made the first of his 30 Broadway appearances in 1899, in
Cyrano de Bergerac, and the last more than half a century later
(Jane Eyre, 1958). He starred in the Sigmund Romberg operetta
Maytime (1917-1918), and directed two plays. By the time he entered
films in 1934, he was playing supporting roles, but he made several appearances
in TV series of the 1950s, including two episodes each of The Lone Ranger
and Topper. Toned. Mounting residue on verso. Otherwise, fine
condition.
