The one-time ambassador to Iran sends a fan his autograph with this signed letter
Typed letter signed "Douglas MacArthur II" in blue ink. 1 page, 7¾x10¼, on United States embassy letterhead. Tehran, Iran, Feb. 17, 1971. Addressed to Mr. Guenther Rischowsky, 55 Julie Crescent South, Central Islip, New York. In full: "Dear Mr.Rischowsky: In response to your very kind letter, I am happy and honored to autograph the envelope you sent me [not included] and am returning it with this letter. With every good wish, Sincerely, Douglas MacArthur II". MacArthur II (1909-1997, born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania) was the nephew of General Douglas MacArthur. He was a member of the French resistance during World War II and held as a prisoner of war for two years. After the war, he was a United States ambassador to Japan (1957-1961), Belgium (1961-1965), Austria (1967-1969) and Iran (1969-1972) and later became part of the editorial advisory board at The Washington Times. Lightly toned and creased. Small tear on left edge. Signature has bled but is legible. Otherwise in fine condition.
