DOUGLAS "WRONG WAY" CORRIGAN
Douglas "Wrong Way" Corrigan sends an autograph letter about being
glad to autograph a stamp for a collector.
Autograph Letter Signed: "Douglas Corrigan", 1p, 5x8. No
place, 1940 February 10. To Tyler. In full: "Glad to know you got
to see the plane and also to be able to autograph the stamp for you - Hello to
Acker". After having been refused a license to fly to Ireland in 1937, on
July 17, 1938, aviator Corrigan (1907-1995) left Floyd Bennett Airfield
in New York City for California. 28 hours and 13 minutes later, he landed
outside Dublin, Ireland, after "accidentally" going the wrong way.
Corrigan's exploit made him a national hero, and he was known as "Wrong-Way"
Corrigan. Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Slightly soiled at lower
blank margin. Fine condition.
