ALBERT B. SABIN. Photograph inscribed and signed: "For Danny Franklin - best wishes - Albert B. Sabin". B/w, 5x7 overall, image 4x5¼ (one surface). With original typed, stamped mailing envelope. Postmarked Cincinnati, Ohio, June 1961. In 1955, virologist Albert B. Sabin (1906-1993) developed the oral polio vaccine made from live viruses. His OPV was given to 100 million children in Europe and 100 million people in the U.S. in 1960, following five years of tests. Sabin, who had moved to Cincinnati in 1939, remained in the city for 30 years except for brief service with the United States Army Medical Corps during WWII, during which time he developed a vaccine for Japanese encephalitis. While in Cincinnati, he served as Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Professor of Research Pediatrics and Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and Children's Hospital Research Foundation. Lightly creased at blank margins and corners. Minor surface creases (most not evident head on). Overall, fine condition.
