Autograph Sentiment Signed: "Admit the bearer to the Gallery/ of the House of Lords this
evening/ Selkirk/ 31st March 1843" 7x2½ affixed to a similarly-sized sheet of paper. Dunbar
James Douglas, 6th Earl of Selkirk (1809-1885), was a Scottish peer. He attended Oxford,
graduating with a B.A. and an M.A., and went on to be a Representative Peer of Scotland.
He was named Keeper of the Great Seal of Scotland twice. From 1844 to 1885 he served
as Lord-Lieutenant of the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright. He married later in life, to Cecily
Louisa Greg-Egerton in 1878, but remained without issue, and the title of Earl of Selkirk
devolved on the 12th Duke of Hamilton. Toned. Paper to which sentiment is affixed is
