THE DUNCAN SISTERS and HEATHER THATCHER
Album leaf signed on opposite sides by the vaudeville and stage stars of the years between the wars
Autograph Sentiment signed: "Best Wishes/Duncan Sisters/Topsy" "& Eva", 5¼x3½ album leaf. Also signed on verso: "Heather/Thatcher". THE DUNCAN SISTERS, ROSETTA (1894-1959) and VIVIAN (1897-1986) starred on vaudeville as Topsy and Eva, with Rosetta ("Topsy") a brash comedian and Vivian ("Eva") a stereotypical "dumb blonde." The duo, which had appeared on Broadway with Ed Wynn in Doing Our Part (1917) peaked in popularity in the 1920s. They wrote their own dialogues and musical numbers, including their hit "Remembering." They starred in a 1927 silent movie based on their act and in a 1929 talkie, It's a Great Life. They remained popular nightclub attractions for decades, and appeared on Liberace's TV program in 1956 performing several of their numbers. HEATHER THATCHER (1896-1987) was an English stage and film star who gained fame for her exotic dances, especially her Egyptian Harem Dance, in the 1920s. Her costumes were considered risqué for the time. A star on London stages, she came to Broadway in on to an MGM contract in 1932, playing a strong supporting role in But the Flesh is Weak that year. Her last film was a comedy, The Deep Blue Sea (1955). Heavily toned. Adhesive residue at left edge. Edges and corners worn. Signatures light at areas but legible. Otherwise, fine condition.
