B/w bust photo of Duncan Renaldo as the Cisco Kid, signed with
"Best wishes from your amigo" with his name and as the Cisco Kid. Renaldo
signed and dated this photo in 1980, the year that he died.
Inscribed photograph signed "To Sal Peluso -/Best wishes from/your
amigo/Duncan Renaldo/Cisco Kid/1980". B/w, 8x9¾ overall, 7¼x9¼ image, one
surface. Duncan Renaldo (1904-1980, born Renault Renaldo Duncan in
Spain), who signed with MGM in 1928, played mostly Latin lovers in late silents
and early "talkie" films. In 1932, he spent almost a year in prison on illegal
entry charges filed by immigration authorities; he was later pardoned by
President Roosevelt. In the 1940s, Renaldo was selected to be one of The Three
Mesquiteers, the heroes of a series of popular Westerns. These Westerns and a
1945 feature film, The Cisco Kid Returns, led to the television role for
which he is best remembered: The Cisco Kid. Televised from 1950 to 1955,
The Cisco Kid was one of the most durable of television's early westerns
and was one of the first series to be filmed in color. Renaldo's film
credits include The Bridge of San Luis Rey (1929), South of the
Border and The Lone Ranger Rides Again (both 1939), Down Mexico
Way (1941), For Whom the Bell Tolls (1943), The Fighting
Seabees (1944), Two Years Before the Mast (1946), The Gay
Amigo (1949) and Jungle Gold (1966, his last film). Lightly cracked,
creased and bowed. Signature is lightly smeared in placed but is legible. Light
impressions on image (not visible head-on). Light dent at top edge. Light nick
in top edge and bottom right corner. Photo is lightly chipped at right edge.
