PEN/Faulkner awards. Other noteworthy Doctorow's novels include The Book of Daniel
(1971), the story of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg; andRagtime, his most commercially
successful work, inspiring a successful film and play. Billy Bathgatewas also a finalist for a
