EARL HOLLIMAN
Vintage candid 3½x5½ photo, posed on the sidewalk in front of the CBS studio, acquired from the collection of Francis and Violet Zane.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Francis/Earl Holliman". B/w, 3½x5¾. Candid photo. Perhaps best known for his role as Lieutenant Bill Crowley in the weekly series Police Woman (with Angie Dickinson, 1974-1978), Earl Holliman (1928-2024) turned in impressive work on many live TV anthologies during the 1950s. His performance as a shipwrecked Marine in a 1958 Kraft Theatre production led to his being cast in Twilight Zone's pilot episode, "Where is Everybody?" (1959). Holliman also starred in a number of films, including Giant (with Elizabeth Taylor, 1956); The Rainmaker (with Katharine Hepburn, 1956), which earned him a Golden Globe; and Sons of Katie Elder (1965), which also starred John Wayne. This photograph is from the collection of Francis and Violet Zane, Hawaii natives who moved to California in the 1920's. Francis Zane had a job at the historic Curran Theater and the San Francisco Opera House, which is where he began his massive collection, with photographs and materials ranging from the 1920's to 1960's. The location and luck of his occupation would land him smack dab in the middle of the celebrity world, allowing him to capture some of the most unique and interesting pieces of Hollywood history. Edges decoratively cut. Lightly bowed. Signature slightly smeared, but legible. Corners lightly worn and creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
