Autograph Letter signed: "Bathurst" 4¾x6 letter affixed to a 7x9½ sheet. Downing Street, April
29, 1824. To "Dear Mr. Pearce" In full: "I regret very much that I shall be deprived of the
pleasure I proposed to myself in dining with you to day, but having this morning heard of the
death of Lord Lothian, which took place at Richmond at two o'clock in the Morning. I am obliged
to ask you to excuse me./ Yours sincerely". Henry Bathurst, 3rd Earl Bathurst (1762-1834) was
a British Member of Parliament who held many positions in the government including
Lord President of the Council (1828-1830), Foreign Secretary (1809), Secretary of War and
the Colonies (1812-1827)and President of the Board of Trade (1807-1812). Stained, worn,
and creased throughout, especially along corners and edges. Handwritten notes in left margin
of sheet. Binding holes along left edge of sheet. Captions containing autobiographical
information about the signer affixed to sheet. Otherwise, fine condition.
