ED ASNER
Signed letter on Lou Grant letterhead congratulating a friend
on their recent radio success, going on to recall one of his own favorite radio
shows
Typed letter signed: "Ed", in black ink, 8½x11. November 2,
1979. Studio City, California. In part: "Dear John: Many thanks for
the enclosures and your nice letter. It sounds like you're going gang-busters on
radio (interesting choice of words). I don't know if I said this in previous
letters, but I probably am an actor because of radio more than anything else
(including movies). Might I recommend to you one great radio show called
"Escape" and on it was - for me - the first exposure to Leiningen vs. the
Ants....Subsequently they made a movie or two out of it...but nothing compared to
the original radio show". Former President of the Screen Actors Guild
(twice) andthe winner of six Emmys, Ed Asner (b. 1929) was
best known as the TV news editor on The Mary Tyler Moore Show
(1970-1977). When Moore ceased production in 1977, Asner took his Lou Grant
character into an hour-long dramatic weekly about a Los Angeles newspaper. The
show's title, of course, was, Lou Grant (1977-1982). Asner has over
250 movies and TV shows to his credit, including voiceover work on numerous
cartoons, such as the 2009 hit Up. Normal mailing folds. Light
surface creases. Corners lightly worn and creased. Fine condition.
