ED KEMMER
AFTRA membership application signed by actor Ed Kemmer with his birth name "Edward W. Kemmerer" in 1950. Kemmer is best known as Commander Buzz Corry on the TV series Space Patrol
Document signed "Edward Kemmer (Kemmerer)" in black ink and "Edward W. Kemmerer" in blue ink. Black and blue ink and lead pencil notations in unknown hand. 4 pages, 6½x9, 2 sheets, front and verso, bound with 1 staple. July 31, 1950. Membership form for the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. According to this document, Kemmer was scheduled to appear in a 1956 episode of Matinee Theatre and to audition for an unknown show called Report to Earth. Before Star Trek, Babylon 5 and Stargate SG-1, there was Space Patrol (1950-1955), which chronicled the adventures of Commander Buzz Corry, Cadet Happy and their spaceship Terra as they battled nefarious villains with Russian and German accents in the 30th century. The show was a half hour live space opera aimed at kids; there was also a 15-minute show that ran in Los Angeles and a few other places. Kemmer (1921-2004), born Edward William Kemmerer, starred as Commander Buzz Corry in the radio and TV series Space Patrol (1950-1955). His starting pay in this series, which was still drawing fan mail into the 21st century, was $8 per episode. Later Kemmer switched to the big screen, starring in drive-in and later TV science fiction favorites, like the 1958 productions Giant from the Unknown and Mystery Science Theatre 3000 fodder Earth vs. the Spider ("BULLETS Won't Kill It! FLAMES Can't Hurt It! NOTHING Can Stop It!"). The first of his many daytime drama roles came in The Edge of Night (1956). Lightly toned and creased. Second signature has bled lightly but is legible. Notations, but, not signature, have bled and smeared lightly in places but are legible. Folded once and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
