The Philadelphia sports businessman partly responsible for the
creation of the Philadelphia Flyers signs a photo of himself as the chairman
with the 1996-1997 Philadelphia Flyers
Printed photograph signed: "Ed Snider" in silver felt tip,
Color 13½x10½ overall, photograph 12½x7¾. Titled the Philadelphia Flyers 1996-97
with the names and position of all of shown in the picture printed from left to
right below the photograph. The 1996-1997 Philadelphia Flyers finished 45-24-13
and made it to the Stanley Cup Finals. They were swept in four games by the
Detroit Red Wings. Edward M. Snider was born on January 6, 1933. In 2011
he is the American Chairman of Comcast Spectacor, a Philadelphia based
entertainment and sports company which owns the Philadelphia 76ers and the
Philadelphia Flyers. In the 1960's when learning the NHL was planning to
expand he made plans for a new arena the Spectrum and in 1967 the Philadelphia
Flyers started playing in the arena. In 1974 he created the Spectacor Company as
a holding company for the Spectrum and the Flyers. In a 1999 Philadelphia
Daily News poll he was selected as the city's greatest sports mover and
shaker, beating out many loved Philadelphia sports figures. In 2005 he
was selected for the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame. Lightly creased.
