ED WYNN. Carbon Typed DS: "Ed Wynn" in ink, 1p, 8½x11. No place, 1951 October 4. On William Morris Agency, Inc. "Inter-Office Correspondence" sheet to Mr. Sam Sacks. Headed: "Re: Ed Wynn - September 22nd, 1951 Show". Begins: "We are holding in New York the contracts listed below all signed by the Artists. Rather than send them on to you for Ed Wynn's signature, will you please have him confirm on the carbon copy of this memorandum that we may sign in his behalf, and return such confirmation to me". The sheet then lists 28 artists and their salaries, which range form $45 to $200. At lower margin, in full: "Authorization is hereby given to William Morris Agency, Inc. to sign the above contracts in my name and as my attorney-in-fact." Also signed (at upper left corner) and initialed (at lower margin) by a representative of the William Morris Agency, Inc. This document probably refers to the TV variety show, Four Star Review, on which Wynn served as an "alternate host" from 1950-1952. Ed Wynn (1886-1966) starred in CBS's first Los Angeles-based variety show, The Ed Wynn Show, from October 6, 1949 to July 4, 1950. The show won the first Emmy Award for "Best Live Show" in 1949, and it would also win a Peabody Award. Wynn won the first Emmy for Most Outstanding Live Personality. He later appeared as Albert Dussell in The Diary of Anne Frank, which earned him a 1960 Oscar nomination as Best Supporting Actor. Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. ¼-inch tear at blank left margin at horizontal fold, chipped at lower blank margin. Lightly soiled, with usual carbon black marks. Light stain at upper margin. Overall, fine condition.
