EDDIE ALBERT
He signs an agreement with the Theatre Guild for a 1953 appearance on the U.S. Steel Hour, receiving first star billing.
Documentary Letter signed: "Eddie Albert", 2 pages, 8½x11, front and verso. Also signed "Armina Marshall" on behalf of the Theatre Guild. Albert commits to appear in a single TV broadcast under the sponsorship of US Steel, on which he will receive top billing. Best known for his role as city slicker turned farmer Oliver Douglas on TV's Green Acres (1965-1971) with Eva Gabor as his wife, EDDIE ALBERT (1906-2005) had made his movie debut in Brother Rat in 1938; his costars included Ronald Reagan and Jane Wyman. Nominated for Best Supporting Actor in 1953 (Roman Holiday) and 1972 (The Heartbreak Kid), Albert's film career included Airport '79, Escape to Witch Mountain, The Longest Yard, Captain Newman, M.D., The Longest Day, The Sun Also Rises, The Teahouse of the August Moon, Oklahoma!, You're in the Navy Now and Hit Parade of 1947. According to Internet Movie Database, Albert appeared on at least a dozen different TV programs in the year he signed this form, mostly the teleplays which dominated what has been called "the Golden Age of Television." ARMINA MARSHALL, who first appeared on the Broadway stage in 1924, became a prominent playwright and producer. The Theatre Guild, which she and husband Lawrence Langer founded in 1919, still flourishes, having produced 228 Broadway plays as of 2002. Marshall and Langer received a Tony for the stage version of Sunrise at Campobello in 1958 and a special Tony (1961) for organizing the first repertory group to tour the world for the U.S. State Department, at President Kennedy's behest. Staple holes at upper left and center. Horizontal fold creases. Lightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
