Eddie Collins signs a contract for the Boston Red Sox to assign the
contract of James Tabor to the Little Rock Baseball Club of the Southern League
for $100 retaining the "right to repurchase the contract of Player Tabor on
or before September 10, 1937 for the sum of $500."
Partly Printed Contract signed: "Edward T. Collins" as Vice
President of the Boston American League B.B. Company and "Roy L.
Thompson" of the Little Rock Baseball Club, 1p, 8½x11. No place, 1937
April 10. The Boston Red Sox assign the contract of Third baseman
JAMES "RAWHIDE" TABOR (1916-1953) played his first major league game on
August 2, 1938, playing for the Red Sox (1937-1944) and Philadelphia Phillies
(1946-1947). His 11 RBIs in a July 4, 1939 doubleheader is an American League
record; he hit two grand slams in the second game. Tabor was only 36 when he
died of congestive heart failure. Second baseman EDDIE COLLINS,
inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1939, played 25 seasons in the major leagues
with 3,310 lifetime hits and a .333 career batting average. Receipt stamp from
